The service was good, the ambience was comfortable, the menu items were unusual for Caifornia, the bread was very good, the 'Praga' lager was good. "But" -- none of the food was excellent, the salad was wimpy, the side portions were small, and the prices were high. The next day we had better food for lower total cost at another area restaurant.
And of course you cant not have a wonderful Czech beer (original dark Budweiser!). Food options lean towards the heavy, bready side, though there are a few salads. I am not normally a fan of the heavy food, but the options here were great. Very good Czech bread dumpling and goulash. Desserts also look lovely, though I didnt get to try them.

A good mixture of locals and folks speaking Czech which adds to the atmosphere immeasurably. The food options were varied and everything we had was very good. The 500+ year old building could make you feel a little claustrophobic, but then there's all that pilsner to wash away the dark corners of this film-noirish place.
