Sadly the only way to play emerald without cartridge is by emulator. On pc i used the vba emulator but the best way to play is by handheld. Theres a software that allows me to play emerald on psp or on vita. But my best experience so far had to be playing it on my nintendo 2 DS. Open the .jar file, go to the File tab and open your Emerald.gba file. Then you can set the conditions of your game, like your starter choices and how random you would like the encounters to be. Once you have finished you save the file as a new .gba file. Then you can open your emulator and open the .gba file you just made.
Yes, there are Red, Crystal, and FireRed speedchoice that I know of. Crystal speedchoice is used for the item randomizer as well, if you saw that in the last GDQ. The speedchoice options do vary from game to game. I'm fairly sure there isn't an evolve every level option in Crystal, for example. Die4Ever.
