CCC vs CIC is the biggest downside to 2008 MY, but it's an easy swap and can be done under $500 if you DIY, including a combox for bluetooth streaming. Or just get a 2009 with CIC already installed. And also yes, to your point the tail lights can be swapped if desired. I owned a 2011 LCI E90 M3 a few years ago, and now I own a Pre-LCI 2008 E92 M3.
I may be the odd one but I like the pre-facelift sedans more compared to facelift sedans. If for some reason I have to do body work I would consider going to pre-facelift front end with M-Tech II bumper or M3 bumper. I already have painted trim so an M3 bumper would look better IMO.
